Chairman's
Message
Special
thanks to our Area Coordinators for a successful 2001 season. Bills
for 2002 dues were mailed out in December and a reminder, if you
have not sent your check for 2002 dues, please do it now.
Congratulations
to new President, Floyd Baker, who has been a Board Member for many
years. Special thanks to past President, Ken Ziegler, who has served
the past three years as your President.
Our country
list is issued every two years. Last edition was January 2001, next
edition will be issued January 2003. Last year we had a number of
members from distant points that shared our programs in Southern
California. With the advance meeting dates being set, we look forward
to offering our hospitality to even more this year.

President's
Message
I
am delighted to serve as your new President for the next two years.
During the past, I have met most of our Southern California members
at our events. Likewise, most of you know my wife, Rae.
My ancestors
moved to North Dakota in 1883 and homesteaded land establishing
a farm. Our house was at the end of a dirt road one mile from a
gravel road, four miles from the nearest town (population 50) and
eleven miles from the closest "city" (population 1200)
with a hospital where I was born. We had no electricity, no indoor
plumbing and no gas.
I was overjoyed when Dad retired in 1942, and we moved to Anaheim,
CA into the home my Grandparents built in 1890, and where my wife
and have lived since 1964.
We honeymooned in Canada in 1959 and began our overseas travel in
1965 with a six week trip to Europe and The Holy Land. We completed
visiting 50 states in 1979, joined TCC in 1985 and made 201 countries
in 2001.
TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF TCC IS ONE OF MY GREATEST HONORS!
I believe you can accomplish great things with the freedom we have
in this world, and we must protect this freedom. We will continue
to travel and not let terrorist activities stop us.
GO TCC!
December
Lunch
David Garfinkle
presented an outstanding slide show. Thank you, David!
Conde Nast Traveler
Magazine sent a representative, Mr. Mark Jolly, to our luncheon
for in depth interviews of the most widely traveled and to seek
unusual stories of our travelers. Watch for a story in one of the
upcoming editions.
In
Memoriam
Long-time
Board Member and former President, Richard Maitland, passed away
January 10, 2002, in La Jolla. He will be missed by his loving and
caring wife Barbara, daughters and a son. He was born in Fargo,
N.D., but grew up in Pasadena. He was founding Chairman of the Board
of the Bank of Coronado, a member of the La Jolla Executive Round
Table and a board member of the San Diego Chapter of the American
Cancer Society.
Our club has
sent a donation to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave. San Diego,
CA 92103.
