CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

After a recent slow down in travel due to the Iraqi War, it’s encouraging to see an upward trend again. Global travel and tourism (the world’s largest industry) has suffered heavily since 9/11, Iraqi war, SARS in Asia and the threat of terrorism worldwide. Our TCC Members are among the leading world travelers and continue as goodwill ambassadors wherever they may journey.

As our Club sponsored tours are carefully planned with your travel needs in mind, we encourage your participation with other TCC members in visiting interesting destinations. Though many members write in when adding a country or two, we prefer to have you send your update only once a year as it makes our record-keeping less burdensome. Exceptions are award categories.

Congratulations to Tony P. Allman and Charles Veley for their Special Award of 317 Countries.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings! Another half year is almost gone! Incredible how time flies at my age. It’s wonderful to be going back to Lawrys for our June Luncheon. Lawrys has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years. Also the management treats our club very well. Thanks go to Kevin Hughes for his comments on circumnavigating Antarctica at the March meeting. That was a trip to remember!

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day cruise in the Caribbean on the Radisson Navigator. Radisson runs a great cruise line. It's nice to have most of your shipboard expenses covered to the initial cost. We picked up three islands we had not visited: Dominica, British Virgin Islands and Grand Turk. There was a very interesting museum on Grand Turk about a 1513 ship, wrecked on the reef on the island. It displayed 10 years of work on the recovered artifacts as well as Lucayan relics. On Dominica the surviving Carib Indians insisted they were peaceful and friendly; it was the Arawak who were warlike and cannibalistic. Also I believe Christopher Columbus would be a TCC member -- he seems to have visited every stop we made.

I am looking forward to seeing and talking with you at the June meeting. See you then!
