Chairman's
Message
Congratulations to Major Bonnie O'Leary, for their 13th Anniversary.
(See more details, under Area Coordinator's Report). Our June Meeting
at Lawry's The Prime Rib Restaurant was well attended and my special
thanks to all the staff at Lawry's for making this so successful.
Wendy Windebank a well-known free-lance writer and photographer,
origi-nally from South Africa, presented an outstanding presentation
on the "Golden Land", Old Burma and New Myanmar. Thank
you Wendy.
On June 21st,
11 well traveled members and myself departed for a one-week trip
to North Korea. An exciting destination, regardless of their political
beliefs, we were given VIP status all the way and free to move around.
We will try to send our quarterly Centurian by e-mail to those whose
address we have. This will include all attachments. If you receive
all material OK, you will no longer receive copies in the mail.
We will however mail all info until December 2002.

June Guest Speaker
Wendy Windebank
Wendy
Windebank is a freelance travel writer and photographer who was
born in South Africa where she lived for 25 years. A traveler through
inherited genes (both grandfathers ventured to South Africa from
England at the turn of the last century), she "hit the road"
at a young age. After marrying an Englishman, she moved to England
for 13 years; transferring to Los Angeles in 1984.
Her travels
have encompassed most areas of the world. "Learning about a
country's history, culture, traditions, and religion, and photographing
sights and scenery, give me a total immersion through which I evolve
a deep connection." She
has been published in several magazines, newspapers and various
online sites, and her slide presentations cover selected destinations
which include Morocco, Turkey, Czech Republic, Australia and Myanmar.

As I reported
in May my health has improved a lot but the cause of my infirmity
remains a mystery, even after visits to neurologist and a neurosurgeon.
