November 2002

Chairman's Message

What a fast moving 2002! We have experienced enough unrest at home and abroad to last a lifetime. Yet, we must look forward to 2003 with a positive note as even more global travel opportunities arise. Certainly, your TCC officers, board members and coordinators want you to enjoy a very happy holiday season and send our special greeting at this time.

We hope to see many of you at the upcoming festive Christmas Luncheon planned for December 14 in Los Angeles’ Century City at Park Hyatt Hotel. Early birds may wish to do some shopping in the many area stores. Those of you, who haven’t been at recent meetings will find this to be an excellent way to renew your friendships with other club members.

Those of you who have access to the web can view the Centurian online. Midwestern USA members should get a copy of the Chicago Tribune Magazine supplement published October 13th 2002 with a 16-page coverage of our club. Very well done! Congratulations to member Randy Curwen, the editor of the article.

A Pacific Island nation fears vanishing beneath the waves. It’s Tuvalu. The highest point of the island is 16 feet above sea level. If you have not been there, better go in the next few years. Twice weekly air service from Fiji.

Our September luncheon featured a slide presentation on North Korea at the Riviera at the Fireside Restaurant in Orange County. Great food and ambience!

Invoices for 2003 dues were recently mailed. There is an increase of $5 for dues.

President's Message

Our successful September meeting was our first visit to Riviera at the Fireside, an old time favorite restaurant in a new location. Congratulations to Don and Pat Burke for reaching 300+ countries.

Let me take this opportunity to whish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Greetings like these are usually given much later, and perhaps it is a bit early. However, today I visited the $300 club (Costco) and found Christmas and Holiday greeting cards and all the decorations for sale. Maybe I’m not so early after all. Is the economy so bad that it takes three months to sell the Holidays?

We traveled again. Went to Washington State for a 72nd birthday, a 50th wedding anniversary, and visits to relatives and friends. We had a wait of 2½ hours at LAX. One-half hour to check in and go through security and 2 hours to wait for the plane to take off. The swiftness of check in and security surprised us. Flying is not as bad as we have heard. All personal were very cooperative and pleasant; we can’t wait to go somewhere again soon.

Well Traveled - November 2002
