Jack and Connie Ogg hosted the annual Texas Christmas party in the absence of Area Coordinators Ken and Janet McAfee who were traveling. It was held at Café Bistro Vino. Members reviewed their travels during the year. The 2006 Christmas Party for the Texas chapter was at Kiran's Restaurant, reports Area Coordinator Janet McAfee. TCC President Kevin Hughes was the special guest. The next Texas meeting is scheduled for March 17.
The Nepalese Association of Houston invited TCC members to the grand Bada Dashain Celebration on Oct. 7 at the Maharajah Restaurant. Meetings in 2007 are scheduled for March 17, June 2, Sept. 22 and Dec. 1. The chapter is honoring Betti and Charles Saunders who have attended every TCC meeting in Texas . Betti has kept a journal of each of their trips, estimated to be to about 138 countries. They still hope to visit the five “Stan” countries. In their travels they have met and dined with Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi and Mikhail Gorbachev. Charles is a 61-year veteran of a law firm, where he is a partner. Betti is active on many Boards in Texas. The couple gives generously to religious, charitable, educational, scientific and literary organizations through their foundation.

Traveling in Asia over the 2004-2005 holidays, Houston area coordinators Ken and Janet McAfee narrowly escaped injury in a cafe bombing in Myanmar, and then came perilously close to losing their lives as tsunami waves devastated the coast of Sri Lanka. Click the links below to read their dramatic reports, one sent from Singapore as they were en route from Myanmar to Sri Lanka, and a second sent from Colombo after the tsunamis struck.
